Work Experience

Manager, User Experience

Cengage Learning, 1 N. State, Suite 900, Chicago, Illinois. 9/2011–present.

Duties include:

  • Managing the user experience on the Web Research Product Group’s collection of Web properties, including Questia, Questia School, HighBeam Research, HighBeam Business, and Encyclopedia.com
  • Managing User Experience team members and contractors and overseeing the entire throughput of the UX department
  • Coordinating the implementation of marketing efforts
  • Continuing role as User Experience Lead for the Questia product and its suite of internal customer service, billing, and account management tools (see below for full description)

User Experience Lead

Duties included:

  • Leading the user experience of Questia, a student-focused online library and research tool, its companion site Questia School, and a suite of internal customer service, billing, and account management tools
  • Providing direction for the User Experience team
  • Translating business objectives into user-friendly, intuitive, and pleasing workflows and interfaces
  • Information architecture, including wireframing and use case and task flow development
  • Producing documentation for developers and quality assurance detailing interaction specifications
  • Web interface visual design and art direction for other designers
  • Prototyping interfaces for usability testing
  • Usability test planning and analysis
  • User feedback collection and analysis
  • Branding and visual style guide creation for the site and its related marketing campaigns
